After the scandal over microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2, these are now being reactivated in the game. However, with a better system than before.
In the coming weeks, there will be significant changes to the progress and payment system of Star Wars Battlefront 2. This news comes after the game received a lot of bad press for its payment options. Players saw signs of Pay2Win in the original system.
Therefore, the microtransactions were removed before the launch of BF2. The changes to progress and payment should make things better.
First, changes to Progress
EA has now confirmed that the microtransactions will return to Battlefront 2 in April. However, you’ll only be able to purchase cosmetic items with them. That means items that do not affect gameplay.
Even before the microtransactions are reactivated, a significant update is coming next week on March 21, which will overhaul the progress system. Currently, star cards and other items that affect gameplay can be unlocked through loot boxes.
With the update, star cards and other items that influence gameplay can only be obtained through gameplay – they can no longer be purchased.
As a result, you will now receive EXP for classes, hero characters, and ships that you play in multiplayer. Once you have enough EXP to level up, you’ll receive a skill point. With this, you can unlock or upgrade the corresponding star card.
If you’ve already collected crates, don’t worry. Star cards, heroes, weapons, and everything else can still be kept and used after the update.
Crates can no longer be purchased and also do not contain star cards. You will now receive crates when you log in daily, complete milestones, and succeed in timed challenges.
And what’s inside the crates? You will now only find credits or cosmetic items such as emotes and victory poses. Items that affect gameplay will no longer be found there.
In-Game Store to be revamped in April
In April, an update will be released that unlocks a new in-game store. There you will find items that change the appearance of your character and can be purchased with in-game credits (which you can earn while playing) or crystals (purchase currency). As an example, EA gives you the opportunity to belong to the Resistance as a Rodian.
The extent of new outfits possible there will be revealed in April.
EA explains that these changes are an important step towards improving the core gameplay. In the coming months, more game modes are expected to be added that will “offer extraordinary, brand-new gameplay experiences.”
