The loot box system of the upcoming online shooter Star Wars Battlefront 2 is causing more and more confusion. Does it have an impact on the game or not?
Dice, the developer studio behind the shooter, has taken player criticism to heart and announced changes to the loot box system, as it did not leave a good impression during the beta. However, the new system is confusing.
Basically, it still seems that players willing to pay can buy advantages. However, other voices suggest that these advantages hardly affect how well one performs in the game.

The cost of loot crates and what they offer
You can obtain loot crates in the game in exchange for earned credits. They contain random items like Star Cards, cosmetic items, and crafting parts. However, it is also possible to purchase loot crates with crystals. You can obtain crystals for real money. Depending on how much money you spend, you receive different amounts of crystals:
- 500 crystals: $5/£4/€4.49
- 1,000 crystals: $10/£8/€8.99
- 2,100 crystals: $20/£16/€17.99
- 4,400 crystals: $40/£32/€35.99
- 12,000 crystals: $100/£80/€89.99
You can buy loot crates in three variants:
- Hero for 100 crystals or 2,200 credits – contains one to two hero Star Cards and additional items
- Starfighter for 120 crystals or 2,400 credits – contains one to two starship Star Cards and additional items
- Trooper for 200 crystals or 4,000 credits – contains one to two trooper Star Cards and additional items

Loot crates are definitely a time saver
Those who spend a lot of money on loot crates can get cards and items faster. Currently, it’s not entirely clear how long it takes to earn items.
The problem is: Currently, no one has much. Therefore, players who buy heavily are clearly at an advantage. But how will this be affected when everyone has reached a certain level?
That will only become clear when Battlefront 2 is released and the community has played for a while. However, the fact is: Those who spend a lot of money at the beginning may quickly acquire a powerful starship.
For poor players, loot boxes hardly help
Those who cannot handle the ship and generally play “poorly” will benefit little from the best Star Cards. And yet: a powerful starship has advantages in the game. It is harder to take down and can destroy other ships faster. Therefore, if you spend a lot of money, you have a good chance of gaining advantages.
However, it is still unclear how all this will affect the game in practice. Only time will tell.
Dice has already announced that they will intervene if it turns out that purchasing loot boxes leads to unfair advantages.
