In the science fiction MMO Star Trek Online, the next expansion is officially confirmed.
Rumors have been flying around, so the developers probably thought: Then we might as well confirm it. The next expansion of Star Trek Online will launch in October. It will head to the Delta Quadrant, the home of Captain Janeway and the Voyager crew’s adventures (and also the storyline of the penultimate Star Trek TV series).
30 years have passed since the adventures of Janeway, Paris, Tuvok, Kim, and Seven-of-Nine. The Delta Quadrant has changed significantly since then. Technology has advanced, and power dynamics have shifted. There should be plenty for captains to do, whether they have sworn allegiance to the Federation, the Klingon Empire, or the Romulans.
Delta Rising aims to explore the Delta Quadrant in the best “Star Trek” sense
From a gameplay perspective, the expansion will bring all that one expects from an MMO expansion. A new tier will be added on top of the current progress level. Captains will rise to level 60. A new class of ships will be introduced, there will be changes for bridge officers, and the equipment will also see upgrades.
In the story, they remain faithful to the source material. Fans of Voyager will see many familiar faces again. First, captains will encounter the Ocampa and the Talaxians, who turn out to be friendly and helpful races, paving the way for players into the Delta Quadrant. Later, players will meet the Kazon raiders. In Star Trek Online, they aim to draw races from the “canon” of the series that were only mentioned in passing, telling their stories and showcasing their culture and architecture. Some cast members from the “Voyager” TV series were also secured for voice roles. At the announcement, Garret Wang, better known to fans as Ensign Harry Kim, was present. As a little joke, he was promoted to Lieutenant (Junior Grade) at the announcement, something Harry had been waiting for in the series.
