Star Citizen has shown a new trailer with gameplay and presents the current features of version 2.6.
Update: The official trailer is no longer accessible, we have now embedded a different video that shows the trailer in the first 2 minutes.
At the end of the year, Star Citizen shows the many critical and enthusiastic observers the current “status quo” of the test version 2.6, an alpha. This is impressive, but it does not convince everyone.
First-Person Action with Star Marine for the First Time
The world of Star Citizen is taking shape more and more as the year 2016 comes to a close, despite all the naysayers and skeptics. Now, the gigantic space simulation, regarded as a crowdfunding sensation, has released a new trailer to showcase this progress.
The Alpha 2.6, the developers promise, offers more ships, more gameplay content, and features. Furthermore, there are two ways to play the alpha. In “Pirate Swarm”, players engage in dogfights against outlaws. In the new “Star Marine”, there is first-person action.
Yes, Star Citizen will be playable as a “shooter” for the first time in 2.6.

The Alpha 2.6 is on the test server and a number of players have now been invited to test the latest version. According to early reports, everything is still quite shaky with crashes and bugs – but that is to be expected on the test server of an alpha. Those who play there are essentially the guinea pigs among guinea pigs.
End of 2016 Was Rather Disappointing for Star Citizen
As GameStar knows, the year-end stream of Star Citizen, from which the gameplay trailer is derived, was rather disappointing. Material from the single-player campaign Squadron 42 was missing. Many had hoped for it – briefly, a newsletter explained why this wish would not be fulfilled, and why there are no images from Squadron 42. They wanted to focus on the Alpha 2.6 and “Star Marine” in the stream.

For some, the livestream was therefore a letdown.
A glimmer of hope: The shooter part Star Marine now seems to be more tactical than it first appeared.
Star Citizen faces an immensely important year in 2017. It is likely that over the course of the year, a point will be reached where more people will be convinced whether the game can meet its high expectations than just the current “test pilots”.
