The developers of Star Citizen have released Alpha 4.2 in the live environment of the SciFi MMO. You can expect exciting new content, Launcher 2.0, but unfortunately also some fresh issues.
What is the highlight of Alpha 4.2? The developers introduce a new activity called ‘Storm Breaker’ for the persistent sandbox universe. In light of the current rain crisis, you are to explore a seemingly abandoned Lazarus facility on Pyro 1 to uncover what the ASD has secretly been up to there.
You can transport items from inside the station to the shuttle areas using cargo elevators. But keep your weapons ready: A huge sandworm (Dune: Awakening says hello) is already waiting for your group. A new trailer prepares you for ‘Storm Breaker’:
You really shine!
What else does Update 4.2 bring? With radiation comes a new environmental hazard in the universe of Star Citizen. Anyone wanting to enter radiated areas needs special equipment. Characters who ignore safety warnings and, for example, come into contact with radiated objects or animals without protection can suffer injuries or even die.
Additionally, the new Alpha update includes:
- New ships and vehicles for the Wikelo Emporium – Perform a series of favors for this faction to unlock them.
- Adjustments on Pyro IV (higher temperature, larger cloud formations)
- Adjustments for equipment switching to ensure more comfort when acquiring new gear.
- All medical tables now protect players from damage for a short time after respawning.
- The processing speed of the refinery has been increased for all types, and full orders can now be loaded onto cargo ships.
- Introduction of dynamic rain in various zones.
- The missions of the bounty hunter guild have been updated.
- The number of Kopions in the acid caves has been slightly increased.
- 4 new hairstyles.
- Update 2.0 for the Star Citizen launcher.
- Many more innovations and adjustments for technology, vehicles, weapons, and more.

What does the community say about the new update? Under the trailer on YouTube, many players are excited about the new rainy adventure and the raid-like fight against the sandworm. Demetrius_Ambrose writes, for example: ‘I live in a reality where one of the things I look forward to the most is a rainstorm in a computer space game.’
On other community platforms, some problems that have come with Patch 4.2 are currently being discussed. In a post by mercenarri on Reddit, for instance, the topic is ships that are currently much more difficult to control. In the discussion about the patch notes on Reddit, players are discussing ship components that have disappeared from their inventory.
Since this is still an alpha, such problems are to be expected when a new patch comes out. Keep that in mind when purchasing a version of Star Citizen to play the SciFi MMO right now.
With a press release, the responsible parties of Star Citizen celebrated in May the launch of the ‘largest vehicle ever controlled by players’. The Aegis Idris is 240 meters long and consists of 13 million polygons. The only downside is that many interested players have come away empty-handed: Players of Star Citizen complain that bots snatched a spaceship the size of a Sims villa right out from under their noses
