In the mammoth project Star Citizen, important milestones of the game are now being reached. The community is on the verge of reaching the 100 million US dollars mark in funding, and Alpha 2.0 has been released for all backers.
The incredible sum of 100 million US dollars will soon be reached in Star Citizen. As of 4:07 PM on this Saturday, the target was just 70,000 US dollars away. The virtual republic counts over 1 million citizens.
But this is not the kind of milestone that the mastermind behind Star Citizen, Chris Roberts, is after. Rather, it is the release of Alpha 2.0 now for all backers.
This is a “major breakthrough”; for the first time, everyone now has access to what makes Star Citizen: exciting space combat in a vast area, and ships operated by multiple crews, allowing players to traverse the galaxy together with their friends on a ship.
All of this is based on a technology that has never been used before in this dimension and depth in the gaming industry.
More about Alpha 2.0 can be found in this article; a release date for the final version of Star Citizen has not yet been announced.
