Cloud Imperium Games have announced a new spaceship for the upcoming space MMO Star Citizen. But fans are wondering if it is worth the money at all.
The ship, the RSI Polaris, is to be offered for 750 US dollars. That is a steep price for a virtual ship. However, this has not deterred fans from raising this money again and again to own as many ships as possible in the game and fly with these exclusive spacecraft through space – when Star Citizen is finally finished.
Virtual spaceship or rather a HTC Vive?
Yet with the RSI Polaris, it’s somehow different. There is a lack of enthusiasm from the fans. There is even discussion about whether it makes sense to spend this money on another spaceship. For the same price, one could buy the Virtual Reality headset HTC Vive. This is also delivered immediately and does not require you to wait until… well, at some point, to finally be able to use the purchased product. This question about the sense of buying a virtual product can always be asked, yet the Star Citizen community has always been very loyal and willing to buy.
Hardcore fans will probably still buy the RSI Polaris, as for many, collecting the ships has become a kind of hobby. The fleet of some fans is already worth several thousand dollars. The spaceship can be purchased starting October 9. Or rather, one is initially only buying the concept of the ship, which still has to be completed…
