Alpha 2.6 of the space MMO Star Citizen was originally scheduled to be released on December 8, but there is a slight delay.
Cloud Imperium Games wants to be more transparent with players, so it is always clear what is currently being worked on and how far along each feature is. This transparency also includes timelines for updates. The Alpha 2.6 update was supposed to be released in just a few days, on December 8. However, the new date now indicates December 16 for the release. The developers need a bit more time for polishing and balancing.
Alpha 2.6 is already being tested
Some testers are already trying out the new version. The so-called “Evocati” is a small group of players who are granted access to the servers by the developers for early testing. The feedback from the Evocati team is used to further improve the update so that it can be made available to all other players. Once the update is in a stable and good condition, it will also be released.
Some adjustments to the game
Update 2.6 brings not only the highly anticipated module Star Marine, which enables shooter battles between players, but also numerous other changes to the game. This includes the flight behavior of the spacecraft. The speeds of the ships will be reduced by up to 50 percent in some cases, while the afterburner will receive greater thrust. Consequently, the battles should become more intense but less frantic.
Also interesting is a change to the asteroid fields. The rocks will have individual flight paths and the fields will be partially procedurally generated. Since there will also be manual adjustments, the asteroid fields are expected to be diverse and detailed.
Fans of Star Citizen will have to be a little more patient before they can dive into Alpha 2.6.
