Cloud Imperium Games has released the new version Alpha 3.1 of the space MMO Star Citizen. Here’s what’s included.
Alpha 3.1 is an extension of the major version 3.0 which was released at the end of 2017. You shouldn’t expect very extensive new features in Star Citizen 3.1. The developers are consistently expanding the features to gradually make Star Citizen an MMO that can also be recognized as such.

Character customization, distress signals, and new ships
The new features of Alpha 3.1 include:
- The ability to customize your hero. You now create a character typical for an MMO and adapt its appearance to your preferences.
- A “Beacon” system has been introduced. You can now send distress signals in space when you need help. You must choose what reputation the players should have who come to your aid and what reward you offer them. Beacons can be rated, so other players can see if they are “trolls” trying to trap others with the distress signals.
- Five new spaceships: Reclaimer, a heavy salvage ship, the Anvil-Terrapin exploration ship, the nimble Razor, the fast Nox Kue, and the ground vehicle Tumbril Cyclone.
Additionally, Alpha 3.1 brings plenty of bug fixes and optimizations, which should make the early test version of Star Citizen play better.
