Cloud Imperium Games state that they will take a hard stance against cheaters. This is a priority, as cheaters also spoil the fun for others in the upcoming MMO Star Citizen.
Cheaters have first appeared in Star Citizen with Patch 2.6 in the Alpha, enjoying unfair advantages in the shooter mode Star Marine.
The company states that it will not tolerate cheaters in any way. Cheats represent a breach of contract and they will take strong action here. Those who cheat will be banned and unable to play Star Citizen anymore. There will also be no refunds for the purchase price. However, they need really significant evidence showing that someone is indeed using cheats.
Video evidence needed
Therefore, Cloud Imperium demands that players provide video evidence when reporting a cheater in the future. However, this is facing some criticism. Not everyone has the capability to record videos or has the appropriate software running at all times to quickly press the corresponding button and record a video in case of doubt. Additionally, some video capturing software may negatively impact game performance.
Anti-cheat is still in its infancy at Star Citizen
The developers then spoke up and explained that they are currently in an early phase of anti-cheat efforts. The fact that they want video evidence now has several reasons. On one hand, it is easier to identify cheaters, and on the other hand, the videos help developers optimize the upcoming anti-cheat software. This way, they will be able to combat cheaters more effectively in the future.
And that is also a priority. The developers want to let the fans know that they are taking cheats and the development of effective anti-cheat software very seriously. However, they are still at the beginning.
