Deadpool is probably the most well-known Marvel hero who loves cheesy jokes and has an annoying personality. But there was once a comic hero created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. He was even more unbearable than Deadpool and faced so much criticism from fans that he had to be removed from the comic.
What kind of hero is this? The Impossible Man, or Impy, hails from the planet Poppup and is a very eccentric character.
- He first appeared in issue 11 of the original Fantastic Four comic series.
- Impy is an alien with unlimited transformational abilities. He can take on any conceivable shape and defy the laws of physics.
- He can break the fourth wall like Deadpool and communicate directly with the readers.
X-User LordAppule tweeted about a comic featuring Impy that made him laugh heartily:
The Impossible Man is only visible to certain characters. His trademark is constantly plunging into the next chaos and causing trouble. Marvel’s goal was to attract a younger audience to comics through Impy. However, it backfired.
That is probably why The Impossible Man will never have his own film:
Impy was temporarily banned
How did it go? The superhero’s debut was initially positively received by fans who enjoyed his absurd humor. However, most readers ultimately found him out of place. The quirky humor did not fit with the serious adventures of the Fantastic Four.
For example, The Thing struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder. Susan Storm, on the other hand, has to grapple with the trauma of her abortion. Another problem was that his supernatural abilities took the tension out of any situation.
What was the consequence? As a result, Marvel decided to ban Impy for a while. His future was uncertain. However, over the years, Marvel loosened the ban, allowing The Impossible Man to make several guest appearances in Marvel comics.
His first appearance after the ban was in issue 21, about a year after his debut. He returned from his home planet to confront Galactus and prevent the world devourer from consuming Earth.
His selfless act brought him back to Earth, where he reappeared in supporting roles over the decades. He posed as the President of the USA or battled the Silver Surfer.
Soon there will be new comic food for Marvel fans: Iron Man will get a new series starting in October 2024, where Tony Stark has to build himself a suit: New comic about Iron Man gives Tony Stark a low-tech suit never seen in 60 years
