The new shooter Splitgate is currently taking over Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. A well-known CoD expert has looked at which of the available weapons are the best – and the developers have responded.
Splitgate is currently the big summer hit. The game is so popular, that more players are flocking in than the developers can provide spaces on servers.
The new shooter roughly combines the well-known games Halo and Portal in a novel old-school experience: in fast rounds, you shoot at your opponents in teams and create portals to move faster across the maps.
You have a total of 11 weapons available, of which we now know which are the best.
Where do the numbers come from? The CoD expert TheXclusiveAce is known for his extremely detailed analyses of weapon values. For example, he is also the author of the analysis of the strongest weapons in CoD Warzone.
In a new video, he examined the values of the weapons in Splitgate and published a document with his results. The developers responded and confirmed most of his numbers, particularly his findings (via Twitter.com).
The best weapons in Splitgate
Which weapons have the lowest TTK? The strength of weapons in shooters is primarily measured by two values: their damage and their associated “Time To Kill” (TTK). The TTK is calculated from the damage dealt and the rate of fire of the weapon, indicating how quickly you can kill an opponent with full health.
Players in Splitgate start with 100 health points. Based on that, and with shots from close range to the torso (without headshot multiplier), there are 3 or 4 weapons that can already kill with a single shot:
Railgun
- TTK: 0 milliseconds
- Damage (Body/Head): 150/150; Rate of fire
- 0.75 seconds (+1 second charge time)
Rocket Launcher
- TTK: 0 milliseconds
- Damage (Body/Head): 150/150
- Rate of fire: 1 second
Shotgun
- TTK: 0 milliseconds
- Damage (Body/Head): 25/30 per pellet (7 pellets per shot)
- Rate of fire: 1 second
The BFB
- TTK: 0 milliseconds
- Damage (Body/Head): 150/150
- Rate of fire: 0.85 seconds
TTK for other weapons:
- Plasma Rifle – TTK: 525 milliseconds
- SMG – TTK: 585 milliseconds
- Assault Rifle – TTK: 720 milliseconds
- Pistol – TTK: 744 milliseconds; Damage
- Sniper – TTK: 857 milliseconds
- Battle Rifle – TTK: 1000 milliseconds
- Carbine – TTK: 1139 milliseconds
The damage in this list shows the maximum possible damage to body/head. The numbers are a mix of official data (damage and rate of fire) and those from TheXclusiveAce (TTK). The developers also state that the values may change. We have embedded Ace’s video for you here:
Some weapons like the assault rifle, shotgun, or submachine gun lose strength over distance, so they are not always equally good. The rocket launcher’s effectiveness decreases if opponents are too far from the detonation.
Numbers aren’t everything – How to read the list correctly
What to watch for: The numbers indicate how quickly you are if you hit all shots at close range in the chest. In some cases, even a single headshot can drastically shorten the TTK.
Additionally, weapons like the submachine gun can barely hit reliably even at medium range, which significantly increases the time. The numbers are therefore more of a guideline than an absolute ranking.
Which weapon should I use? Ace himself says that the “best weapon” can be different for each player. If you are less accurate, the rocket launcher can be a good choice. If your aim is always on point, snipers or battle rifles will serve you better.
It’s best to try out the weapons yourself. Although the originally planned release had to be postponed, Splitgate will officially release in August, but you can currently play the beta for free on PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
