The new shooter Splitgate (PC/Xbox/PlayStation) is currently very popular on Steam. The crazy mix of Portal and Halo seems to work well and it launched its Season 0 at Gamescom. With this also came a seemingly simple feature in Splitgate that is making big waves. We at MeinMMO summarize.
What feature is new? This is a final killcam, a short video at the end of a round showing the last kill in the match. Although a normal killcam has already existed, the final killcam was a highly requested feature in the shooter community.
Fans argued that well-known shooters like CoD and Overwatch also have such features and that they make the executing player feel really good at the end.
The developers conceded and granted the game the final killcam with Season 0 as well as a killcam for all game modes except the SWAT mode. In the patch notes, the developers comment on this part of the update with the words: “Yes, we have seen your petitions.”
The community loves the new feature: Just a few hours after the release of the update, there are tons of clips on social media because of the new feature. Because while players could only see how they were killed before, they can now show off their own kills and feel good.
On Twitter, a kind of race for the best trick shot has even started. A trick shot is when a kill is performed in a particularly unusual way and includes useless or non-contributory elements to the kill. If you see an opponent and then shoot him, that’s cool. But if you see him, swing through two portals, turn 180 degrees and then shoot him, that’s a trick shot.
“It’s time for trick shots!”
These are the reactions: Especially on Twitter, the Splitgate community is active.
In this tweet, you can see one of the most impressive trick shots:
The video is titled: “And that’s why we have the final killcam” and the excitement of the community can also be found in the comments.
- User LaVinci writes (via Twitter): “These are just some big-brain moves. Mega creative!”
- BainZell also agrees (via Twitter): “This is so beautiful to watch”
- Completely blown away is xSPRUTZx (via Twitter): “Dude, what the hell did I just see?”
- Even the official account of the game writes under the tweet: “WHAT”
Streamer Tyoxy thanks Splitgate for the feature and also shares his last trick shot with you:
Splitgate mixes Portal with Halo
What is Splitgate actually? Splitgate is an arena shooter where you can use portals to get from one place to another faster, or even shoot yourself away like a cannonball. The shooter is so popular on Steam that the developers even had to postpone the release date to provide new servers.
Currently, Splitgate can attract and excite up to 46,000 players simultaneously (via steamcharts.com). The title is currently in an open beta on Steam and is free for everyone to play. This beta will continue until the stability of the servers can be ensured for the launch. There is currently no exact date for the final release.
With the start of Season 0, the developers are again adding some features to the game. The community is also pleased that there is new content despite the game still being in beta.
What else is new in Season 0? With the new Season 0, several other new features also came into play besides the final killcam. Among them are the following:
- The new map “Karman Station”
- A battle pass with 100 tiers
- 2 new game modes – Contamination and Casual Team Rumble
- An aim assist for controllers
- Post-game time for different game modes
- Various balance and quality-of-life changes
What do you think of the shooter? Are arena shooters for you and if so, what do you think of the portal idea? Do you play Splitgate yourself and look forward to the final killcam? Feel free to leave us a comment.
The developers themselves are quite active on Twitter and recently responded to a CoD streamer. Splitgate showed the values for the best weapons in the hit shooter.
