Red Dead Online is the multiplayer mode of Red Dead Redemption 2. Players can now dive into the online mode and try out the initial features and content. We show you what’s included.
Today, on November 27, the online mode of Red Dead Redemption 2 launched into beta as early access. Rockstar also explained what to expect during the beta.
Red Dead Online – What’s included?
You’ll start this week with features such as:
- Groups with friends (posses)
- Setting up camp
- Story missions (also cooperative)
- Competitive series
- Encounters with strangers in the world
- You can help them, or not
- Spontaneous challenges in free mode
- Hunting and fishing
- Building a bond with your horse
- Solo and group content
Higher rank for more bonuses: While you are active in the online world, you can earn experience points and increase your rank. This grants you additional bonuses.
What unlocks progress? With progression, you improve your attributes and unlock items.
Where is it played? You play in all five states in Red Dead Online. Even during the beta phase, there are expected to be updates.
Are there awards? Yes. You can earn them in 12 categories such as combat, hunting, sharpshooter, or survivalist.
Character Creation
You can customize your character’s appearance and attributes in detail.
Where do you start? The start is at the Siska Jail. From there, your journey begins and you get a horse, set up camp, find treasures, and unlock your first ability card.
Competitions and Showdown Series
In the beta of Red Dead Online, there are five new modes that belong to a larger showdown series.
What modes are there?
- Shootout & Team Shootout
- Classic shootouts with unlimited lives. The player with the most kills wins
- Make it Count
- Use a bow, a handful of arrows, or throwing knives to survive as the last player
- Most Wanted
- Each kill improves your position. The higher you are on the leaderboard, the more points opponents receive for killing you
- Hostile Territory
- Capture an area and score points. The team with the most points wins. Or those that control the entire map
- Name your Weapon
- Here everyone fights everyone. The more difficult the weapon you use is to handle, the more points you earn with a kill.
Increase Honor in Red Dead Online
The honor system can also be found in the beta of Red Dead Online. Based on your choices, you either earn or lose honor. Your honor affects missions.
Honor in Free-Roam Missions: Alone or with your posse, you can participate in free-roam missions. These are the stranger symbols on your map. Depending on your honor level, these missions differ. For example, a cowboy with a lot of honor may be asked to escort a convoy. If your honor is low, you may be asked to rescue a criminal from the law’s captivity.
Cooperative story influenced by honor: The cooperative storyline for two to four players is also based on your honor. In “A Land of Opportunities,” there is a multipart series of missions. Depending on your honor level, individual parts may change.
Why can’t I play yet?
Initially, only players with an Ultimate version can play Red Dead Online. Red Dead Online is launching in the beta phase as a staggered release. When you can play is explained here.
Can I keep my game progress?
Rockstar hopes that your game progress will be maintained during this early beta phase and also long term.
Warning: In case of technical difficulties, it may happen that ranks or other statistics may need to be reset.
Report if something is wrong
The beta phase of Red Dead Online is not yet the finished product of the online mode. There are still many issues in various areas. Rockstar therefore asks for feedback.
Reporting feature is available: If you notice cheaters or hackers or encounter other inappropriate behavior, simply use the reporting feature in the game.
Suggestions for improvement: Together with the community, Rockstar wants to improve the experience of Red Dead Online. For this purpose, they have created a special feedback website on Rockstargames.com, where you can report bugs or suggest improvements.
