A player cancels the order of a graphics card, cancels it, but still receives it. Amazon ends up giving him the graphics card for free.
A player reports on Reddit that he wanted to order an RTX 5080 on Amazon. But shortly after he submitted the order, he was also able to order an RTX 5080 at Micro Center, a US chain.
The user explained that he canceled the order on Amazon because he preferred to buy at Micro Center. However, even though he canceled the purchase and received his money back shortly after, Amazon still delivered the RTX 5080 to him. In Germany, you pay at least 1,849 euros for the RTX 5080 Astral White (via Geizhals.de, as of January 29, 2026).
Amazon gives the player the graphics card for free
How did it turn out? In an update, the user explained that he offered Amazon to pay for the graphics card that was delivered anyway. But Amazon told him that they had already processed the refund and he could keep the graphics card for free. The player writes on Reddit:
Thank you, Amazon! I canceled an order because Micro Center had some items in stock, received a refund, and somehow this product showed up at my doorstep a few days later.
As mentioned in the comments, I had already contacted Amazon and offered to pay, but they said since the refund had already been processed, it was a mistake on their part and I could keep the item.
Does this happen more often? There are always cases where Amazon lets buyers keep over-delivered goods. This often happens when the return costs more than the original delivery. In one case, a user ordered an OLED monitor but received two instead. Amazon let the person keep the second monitor for free.
However, there are also examples where users shamelessly exploit Amazon’s customer service: They order hardware, claim the package was lost, and then keep the money and the shipped hardware.
But there are also cases where Amazon is far from accommodating. A father found this out when he ordered a graphics card but received a fake product instead. Amazon refused the refund until the press finally got involved: Gamer buys graphics card on Amazon, receives fake product – Merchant refuses refund until the “correct” item is returned
