The worlds in MMOs and MMORPGs can be vast. Crossing them can take many hours. The YouTuber “How Big is the Map” has made it his mission to do just that. On his channel, he walks through various games, often for hours at a time.
What does the YouTuber show? In his videos, the Dutchman showcases game worlds that he explores entirely on foot. His focus is primarily on open-world games. He traverses them from one point to the farthest possible distance. He does not use shortcuts or tricks.
The YouTuber started at the beginning of 2016 and has since walked through various MMOs and MMORPGs. At the beginning and end of his videos, he speaks briefly, but the remaining hours are set to music.
In the meantime, he has gained nearly 15,000 subscribers. His videos have been viewed over 2.2 million times in total.
From 1994 to today, everything is included
Which games has “How Big is the Map” explored? The list of games he has already traversed is extremely long. The release date of the games doesn’t play a major role.
He has already walked through large MMORPGs like World of Warcraft or ESO, as well as modern games like Anthem, Fortnite, or GTA 5.
He has traversed almost every MMO that we can currently recommend to you.
Among his longer tours is the march through Black Desert, which was recorded just in August and took over 6.5 hours.
What was the longest march? Some games have endless, regenerating maps like Minecraft. However, some only pretend to do so.
Thus, the Dutch YouTuber also walked through Daggerfall, released in 1996, for which he needed 11 videos and a total of 69 hours and 33 minutes to explore.
In the end, he did reach the end of the map, which had continually reshaped itself. There, he found a lake that he could not cross.
Are the game worlds that big? Through mounts, portals, skills, and speed buffs, we often forget how vast the game worlds in MMOs can be.
This very decelerating project makes it clear that some worlds are much larger than we actually remember them to be.
When was the last time you walked through a large MMO on foot?
For those who love MMOs, you can look forward to this in 2019:
