A player buys a used PC through Facebook and is surprised by what he finds. The installed 128 GB of RAM is worth more than the entire computer combined.
A user purchased a computer for $320 via the Facebook Marketplace. That is roughly about 270 Euros (as of January 22, 2026). While the computer itself seems rather unremarkable, the big surprise is the RAM.
For this far exceeds the price of the system. The high RAM prices are currently a major issue for many users wanting to upgrade their systems or build a new gaming PC altogether. Some users are thus resorting to 18-year-old hardware to circumvent the high prices.
128 GB RAM, a single stick is already worth between 280 and 300 Euros
What did the user buy? Basically, the purchased hardware initially seems quite unspectacular, as the poster mentions in another post on Reddit:
The processor is an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, along with a Samsung SSD with 2 TB, a budget mid-range motherboard from MSI, and a 650W power supply from EVGA. There’s actually no graphics card installed in the system. At first glance, it doesn’t seem very exciting.
What is interesting, however, is how much RAM is installed in the system: The player presents a photo on Reddit showing that 4 x 32 GB of RAM were installed in the system. Together that is a total of 128 GB of RAM.
If you look at the current market prices for RAM as a sample for example on Geizhals.de, one pays at least between 280 and 300 Euros for a 32 GB RAM stick. If not significantly more, due to the continuing price increases. Since this is particularly high-priced RAM, as indicated by the “Trident Z Royal” lettering, a brand of G.Skill, the value is likely to be even higher.
The user paid as much for the used computer as a single RAM stick is already worth. Calculated for the four sticks, he actually received four times the value.
How credible is the post? Nevertheless, the post should be viewed with a hint of skepticism: The user did not post the original offer on Reddit, nor does one see the old system with the installed RAM. You only see a picture with the 4 RAM sticks. Thus, it could also be a user who removed the RAM from his own system to present it. On the other hand, the poster’s account is already over 8 years old, which speaks for credibility.
A user bought 1 TB of RAM for about $1,400. A few months later, the hardware, to his surprise, is worth $10,000. He had actually wanted to sell the items much earlier, but simply forgot about them: A user bought 1 TB of RAM and 20 TB of storage for 1,200 Euros a few months ago: Today the hardware is worth more than 8,500 Euros
