MeinMMO author Johanna eagerly watched the trailer for the new Spider-Man-movie. The superhero is finally just like in her favorite comics: broke and really the friendly neighborhood Spider.
In the new trailer for the 4th Spider-Man movie in the MCU, we see a Peter Parker who stands without his many gadgets from the previous parts. After the events of the last film No Way Home, Peter Parker had to make the difficult decision to make everyone forget that Peter Parker exists or that he is Spider-Man.
In Brand New Day, it is now about the consequences Peter Parker must face due to this, and he seems to be physically unwell, so he seeks help from Bruce Banner. This also brings new villains into play, including Scorpion, Boomerang, and Tarantula.
Because no one remembers that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, most of his gadgets are gone, which he primarily got through Iron Man/Tony Stark. In this movie, he can probably only rely on what he can make himself.
Seeing Spider-Man so broke is exactly what I wished for from the other MCU movies with the Spider.

Less is More for Superheroes
Don’t get me wrong: I love the Spider-Man trilogy in the MCU. Still, something has always been missing for me: the friendly neighborhood aspect.
With the new spider suit, Peter Parker could access spider arms that assisted him in combat. No question, it’s cool to see a new look for Spidey in the MCU, but that was too much for me. Spider-Man has not been what I loved in the comics so far in the MCU.
In the comics that I devoured as a child, he was just the neighborhood Spider who helped people in his immediate vicinity. He was a friendly, helpful teenager, just with the ability to shoot spider webs.
Even though that seems rather dull compared to what other superheroes experience – like threats that could engulf the whole world – that was exactly the aspect I found so exciting. Because Peter Parker had to come up with much more to defeat his villains.
Taking something away from superheroes or putting them in a seemingly hopeless situation is exactly what I wish for. Only then do superheroes have to be creative and show another nuance than what they have always been. They become more detailed and their character develops.
Seeing Spider-Man like this in Brand New Day makes me really want to watch the movie in theaters. I am also very excited about the upcoming villains!
Sometimes, superheroes are indeed much more interesting when they have fewer resources and are thus not so overwhelmingly powerful. MeinMMO editor Niko Hernes also found this aspect more interesting for the superhero Thor.
