Jennifer Lawrence played the lead role in the science fiction film Passengers. In an interview, she talks about why she regrets her involvement in the film – having been warned beforehand by the singer Adele.
Passengers is a science fiction film with romantic elements by the Norwegian director Morten Tyldum. It was released in American theaters in December 2016, followed by its release in Germany in January 2017.
The leading roles were played by Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, who is currently seen in Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Before that, Pratt voiced Mario in “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
In an interview with the New York Times, Jennifer Lawrence talks about her role in Passengers. When asked which film makes her reconsider her choices, she named the sci-fi flick. The successful singer Adele had even warned her beforehand.
“I think everyone had enough of me.”
What did Adele warn her about? “She said, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her,” Lawrence said (via Variety). She often viewed Passengers as a setback in her career.
The romantic relationship between the main characters and especially the behavior of the male protagonist are considered problematic by many. Because: James “Jim” Preston (Pratt) awakens Aurora Lane (Lawrence) from her hibernation too early, thus putting her in enormous danger (via Filmstarts).
On Rotten Tomatoes, Passengers has an overall rating of only 30%. In her review, marked as “Top Critic,” user Anne Cohen writes: “Passengers takes a potentially interesting debate about consent (agreement) and covers it up with cheesy romance and problematic sex” (via Rotten Tomatoes).

But Jennifer Lawrence was also dissatisfied with her work. “I did not deliver the quality that I should have,” she says in an interview (via Variety). “I think everyone had enough of me. I had enough of me. It had just reached the point where I couldn’t do anything right,” Lawrence said.
The fact that she was nominated for a Golden Raspberry as worst actress in 2018 for her role in “Mother!” certainly did not help her feelings about it.
What consequences did she draw? Jennifer Lawrence felt that fans were disappointed simply by her existence. The actress took a break. At the end of 2021, she returned in her role as Kate Dibiasky in the dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.”
