Most know Space Marines as the poster boys of Warhammer 40,000. However, there is more to these genetically engineered super-soldiers than you might think, as they have a long development history – with varying levels of strength.
Space Marines are human-bred super-soldiers with additional organs, enhanced reflexes, and superhuman strength. They wear armor and wield weapons that are far too heavy for normal humans, live for hundreds of years, and exist for battle.
The first Space Marines were created by the Emperor himself with the goal of uniting the galaxy – or at least the Imperium of Man. Only men can become Space Marines, though this ultimately doesn’t matter: The body is altered so drastically that gender no longer plays a role. Space Marines cannot reproduce.
Although every Space Marine undergoes the same process to become a Space Marine, there are significant differences among them. It’s not just about which chapter they belong to, whether they are loyal or serve Chaos, or whether they are deployed as Apothecaries, Scouts, or Assault Terminators.
Since their creation, and technically even before, there have been various types of Space Marines, some with significant differences in their strength. MeinMMO ranks all versions of the super-soldiers in the power ranking.
5. Thunder Warriors, the proto-Space Marines
Even before there were Space Marines, the Emperor created an earlier variant of super-soldiers: Thunder Warriors, or Thunder Warriors. Compared to Space Marines, Thunder Warriors were even bulkier.
They had thicker bones, faster reflexes, and were sometimes even stronger than today’s Space Marines. Against the influences of Chaos, they were believed to be better equipped as well. There are reports that Thunder Warriors can easily defeat Space Marines in battle.
However, Thunder Warriors had a significant weakness: They were genetically and psychologically highly unstable – to the extent that some perished due to their mutations. They were excellent for raw violence and as brutal warriors, but not as soldiers. They lacked discipline.
As pure fighters, they may surpass Space Marines, but in the ranking of the best and strongest soldiers, they score lower because they cannot operate as a unit for long or follow orders. A few last, scattered, and loyal Thunder Warriors are said to still exist, but most were personally purged by an edict of the Emperor.
