Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 aims to test how good you really are with an endless mode. Fans have been waiting a long time for this mode.
What kind of mode is this? In Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the community has been waiting for months for the introduction of the so-called “Siege Mode.” This is a type of horde mode where you face endless waves of opponents in large PvE battles, in teams of up to 3 players, to defend an imperial fortress against the Chaos army and the Tyranids.
The mode was announced months ago but has been delayed until now. Many players have been looking forward to the endless challenge, and now it is finally here: You can now play the Siege Mode on the public test servers of Space Marine 2.
Ever-increasing waves of enemies with boss battles
How is this mode structured? The fight against the waves of enemies takes place in an imperial fortress on Kadaku, which is divided into three sectors:
- Defensive positions
- the Arsenal
- the Control Room
In these three sectors, you must survive 5 waves before you can advance to the next sector. In every fifth wave, you also have to defeat a boss enemy. Once you have successfully defended all sectors, you can return to the earlier positions and reinforce them.
The developers say that the endless waves of the mode will challenge even the strongest teams. These waves are supposed to get progressively stronger, which is why there is a short break between each wave to allow for strategic decisions and to replenish your ammunition.
Ammunition, medical syringes, and other aids can be obtained in exchange for resources that you earn for successfully surviving waves and completing side missions. The side missions involve tasks such as taking strategic positions.
If you pool your resources as a team, you can acquire a Dreadnought – which you cannot control yourself. Dreadnoughts are heavily armored and nearly indestructible combat walkers. You can read more about the Dreadnoughts here:
Weak rewards diminish anticipation
What do players say about the mode? On Reddit, there are already some initial comments about the mode. One player describes the gameplay of the mode as if you directly join “the most fun part of the PvE operations”, with intense battles against powerful enemies.
In the comment section of the patch notes (via focus-entmt.com), some players criticize the rather mediocre rewards for playing the mode. So far, only “red, white, and blue skins” have been mentioned as rewards. Some players find that a bit disappointing.
Space Marine 2 has not even been out for a whole year yet, but we already know that the popular Warhammer series featuring Captain Titus will not end with the second installment. The developers have already announced the sequel Space Marine 3: Genetically engineered superhumans are the flagship of Warhammer 40,000, now getting their 3rd own game
