In a space battle of the MMORPG EVE Online, 6,000 players fought and destroyed in-game resources worth several thousand euros.
What is EVE Online? EVE Online is a subscription-based sci-fi MMORPG from Pearl Abyss (formerly CCP Games), where all players play on the same server and inhabit space with numerous planetary systems.
There is no clearly defined game objective in EVE Online. Primarily, players pursue the development of their character and the accumulation of personal in-game wealth. Accordingly, there is a strong focus on the game’s market system and economic activities.
What kind of battle was that? In EVE Online, there are always massive space battles where thousands of players meet. In recent events, the “Imperium” fought alongside the troops of “B2” against “Fraternity”, “PanFam”, and “Winter Coalition” in the X47L-Q system.
In the total of 13 hours of fighting, approximately 6,000 players were involved. Additionally, in-game resources worth one trillion ISK (the in-game currency of EVE) were destroyed.
If EVE players want to buy the in-game currency outside the game, they currently pay around €40 for seven billion ISK (via playerauctions.com). Based on the in-game resources destroyed during the battle worth one trillion ISK, players would need to invest nearly €5,500 to compensate for the damages.
Massive battles are, however, not unusual in EVE Online. Just a few weeks ago, 6,000 players fought in EVE Online in the “X47L-Q” system. The largest battle of the MMORPG remains unmatched. In 2020, around 8,000 players were involved in a fight.
The developers of EVE Online have announced a new AAA game. However, this was not well received by the players of the MMORPG, as it is said to use a controversial technology.
