Halloween is approaching. The festivities have already begun in Fortnite. For MeinMMO author Eilyn Rapp, it is actually the highlight of the year, but this year she is celebrating in another game.
This is what is happening in Fortnite right now: On Wednesday, October 21st, the Halloween event started: the Fortnite Nightmares with the 14.40 update. The leader of the agents’ group “Midas” from Season 2 returned and wants his revenge. He brought his shadow friends with him.
Players who are eliminated in a Solo, Duo or Team round are also transformed into shadows and can haunt the remaining players. The entire map has been spooky styled, and anyone who wants to zoom around on a broomstick can do so now.
Fortnitemares 2020 is cool, but it doesn’t convince me
This is why Halloween in Fortnite has always been my highlight: I am a huge Halloween fan, and this season is always eagerly anticipated by me. That’s why I always looked forward to the Halloween event in Fortnite, and it became my festive tradition.
Spooky skins to “dress up” in, a atmospherically decorated map, and various activities that give you chills. So, it was no surprise, that I could warmly recommend Fortnitemares 2019 to everyone.
This is what bothers me about Fortnitemares 2020: The event itself is quite cool, and like in previous years, I enjoy the spooky setting, but somehow it doesn’t fully convince me.
The shadows are awesome at first, but over time, you just float around and don’t know what to do exactly when you can’t find any opponents. You can try out different abilities, but these are quickly learned. The funny thing about it is when you “consume” loot so that the living cannot find it.
Over time, you see this function as well, and the joy diminishes. Whether I will specifically start Fortnite on Halloween after having experienced it already 100 times, I doubt it.
My biggest highlight from the Fortnite Nightmares has always been the cool Halloween skins, but I have to sadly say that they didn’t really convince me. Only the Gothic pack has been interesting for me so far, and those are actually old outfits that were already known.
Halloween is celebrated in another game!
This game has captivated me instead: The reason I am not so thrilled about Halloween in Fortnite is also because I have another festival that I am looking forward to.
Animal Crossing New Horizons has become a big part of my daily life, and when I saw the announcement for an autumn update filled with spooky items, I was thrilled.
This is what got me so excited: For a month now, players in ACNH have been preparing for Halloween. The spooky items can be crafted by yourself, and even the pumpkins needed for this are planted yourself. This allows you to decorate your own island.
I naturally set up a spot just for my favorite season. There, I placed all the items and created my own pumpkin garden.
However, I am most looking forward to Halloween itself, because unlike in Fortnite, there is a real festival in Animal Crossing on October 31st with “trick or treat”. Your animal neighbors also dress up and ask for candy.
I will have a lot to do, as I will also be able to visit my friends and distribute some candy to their neighbors. The excitement is rising because I am already wondering what costumes I will see.
Although I actually think the Fortnitemares 2020 is cool, Animal Crossing has been able to convince me more with their Halloween event this year. Additionally, I won’t be celebrating alone in ACNH as my friends unfortunately don’t play Fortnite anymore. However, I will still check in daily to the Fortnite Nightmares because I want to level up the battle pass of Season 4. For that, I already have some tips that help level up faster.
