In Fortnite: Battle Royale, the original Fortnite skins are back, but now you have to pay for them. MeinMMO author Eilyn Rapp thinks that’s a bit cheeky, although she is happy about their return.
What are these skins? On November 5 at 1:00 AM, the item shop was updated and the oldest skins that you can now buy were released. We’re talking about the original default skins that were available at the launch of Fortnite: Battle Royale.
Back then, these were the only outfits you could use through a random method. Accordingly, these were also free, unlike the skins that were released gradually.
After the start of Chapter 2 brought new default skins, the original ones were not seen for a while. But now they are back, just not in the way you would expect.
I’m not paying for that!
What’s different now? As already mentioned, you can now buy the default skins if you want to revive the feeling from the old days. Either you buy 1 favorite for 800 V-Bucks or a whole pack of 4 for 2,000 V-Bucks.
The defaults mean a lot to me: For me, the default skins were always something special. They accompanied me when I first entered the Fortnite world, and as I got better and had new cool skins, I saw players with default skins as “noobies” that needed protection.
In Brazil, players were discriminated against just because they couldn’t afford a skin and therefore walked around as defaults. But I felt for the players and wanted to give them an even cooler round.
When they then got a completely new style in Chapter 2, it made me a little sad, but it didn’t bother me much. After all, the memories remained.
What bothers me now about the return: Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s cool that the original defaults are back and not simply forgotten. But how they have returned does bother me.
Why should a skin that was available for free to every player suddenly cost money? I mean, these were the skins you had to use if you didn’t want to buy a skin from the item shop.
Sure, now you can choose exactly which default skin you want and aren’t reliant on the random generator. Some players might like the simple style of the defaults, but to spend extra money on that? For me, it’s a clear: No! That would be a skin I would be ashamed to buy.
Sorry Fortnite, you often get me with skins, also with old ones that are offered in the item shop thanks to a different style as “new”, but here I have to say: I think it’s a bit cheeky to charge money for skins that were previously free.

I can understand why players buy these skins, especially if they want to feel like a real OG again. But I’m not too thrilled about this action. However, if you also want to revive the OG feeling but don’t want to spend money for it, you can now get the very first pickaxe for free.
