Sony has revealed which games were downloaded the most on PS5 in 2022. The soccer simulation FIFA 23 is in first place, even though it is only just under 4 months old.
What kind of list is this? Sony has posted a list on the PlayStation Blog of the games that were downloaded the most on PS5 in 2022.
In total, the list features 20 games, although not all of them were released in 2022. Besides new releases like Elden Ring, GTA V also counts among the top 20.
Additionally, the list is divided into Europe and US/Canada. In this article, we refer to the relevant European list for Germany.
Sports games surpass FIFA downloads in 2022
Which game is in first place? In Europe, the sports game FIFA 23, released in September 2022, ranks first. The soccer simulation thus leads the list of the most downloaded games in 2022, even though it was only released just under 4 months ago.
FIFA 23 is the last game in EA’s soccer simulation that carries the name “FIFA”. The popular title has lost the naming rights and will be called EA Sports FC starting July 2023.
Anyone who thinks that the success of the soccer simulation is a European phenomenon is mistaken: In the US and Canada, FIFA 23 holds a strong second place.

Which games are also represented? The biggest competitor to FIFA in terms of download numbers on PS5 is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. While the latest installment of the popular shooter franchise landed in second place in Europe, it secured first place in the US/Canada.
Additionally, GTA V is represented in the top 5 in both regions, as even nine years after the release, the online mode of the game continues to receive updates. For example, there is now a weapons transporter where players can buy a railgun.

Which F2P games are popular? For the most downloaded free-to-play games, Sony has created a separate list, which is also divided into EU and US/Canada and includes a total of 10 games.
In Europe, the most popular F2P game of 2022 is Call of Duty: Warzone 2, and following in second place is another battle royale shooter, Fortnite. The top 5 is completed by Rocket League, Fall Guys, and The Sims 4.
In places 6 to 10 are Overwatch 2, FIFA 23 competitor eFootball 2023, Apex Legends, Genshin Impact, and MultiVersus – the fighting game also celebrated a strong release on Steam.
