Sony revealed new hardware at the PlayStation Showcase 2023: the long-speculated handheld and earbuds for the PS5.
What was revealed? Sony introduced two new gadgets for the PS5:
- The gaming handheld for the PS5, previously referred to as “Project Q”.
- Earbuds, or in-ear headphones for the PS5.
Both products are expected to arrive “later this year,” but no specific date has been provided yet. A price is also still unknown. However, it is certain that Sony will present more information in the coming weeks.
We’ve embedded the official trailer for the new “accessories” for the PS5 here for you. In the roughly 60 seconds, you can catch a first glimpse of the handheld and earbuds:
New hardware comes in the white design of the PS5
What does the hardware look like? The handheld and earbuds are styled after the PlayStation 5. The handheld actually resembles a Dualsense controller with a display unit in the middle, and it somewhat reminds people of the handheld recently presented by Razer. The price for the Razer handheld is around 400 euros. The price for “Project Q” is not yet known.
What does the handheld offer? The handheld is supposed to feature an 8-inch HD display, and you should be able to play your PS5 games via Remote Play with it. And that over a stable Wi-Fi connection. The initial rumors about the handheld have led to mixed reactions: Many had hoped for a successor to the PS Vita or PlayStation Portable (PSP) instead of just a pure streaming device.
What do the earbuds offer? So far, Sony has not provided any specific information and has only shown the design. At first glance, however, the earbuds look promising: Our editor Benedikt Schlotmann believes that Sony could fulfill a major wish with them.
