Sony will focus more on service games in the future that offer multiplayer. You can find the information about the games here on MeinMMO.
PlayStation manufacturer Sony not only builds consoles but also owns many developer studios that create new games on behalf of the Japanese corporation.
Sony is currently diversifying its strategy. Unlike Xbox, which is currently heavily focused on Game Pass and subscription models, Sony sees the future in service games with multiplayer.
In an interview with the US site Axios, Hermen Hulst, Head Of PlayStation Studios, confirmed that they are currently working on 12 service titles (via axios.com). A few months ago, they anticipated at least 10 new service titles.
There is currently little concrete information about the titles, only brief statements or mini-info from the individual studios. However, we are compiling what is known here for you.
Sony is currently marketing its PS5 universe with news-format advertising. This has already caused some confusion, here you can find one of the spots:
7 titles with many new brands in the Sony universe
What is already known? For 7 of the 12 games, we already know the developer studio and a possible direction of the title. In addition, we know that most of the 7 games are developing completely new brands:
- Firewalk Studios: AAA multiplayer for PC / PS5 with a new brand
- Bungie: Working on a completely new brand with multiplayer
- Deviation Games: Completely new brand
- PlayStation London Studio: Fantasy game with online battles
- Haven Studios: AAA multiplayer with a new brand
- Naughty Dog: Multiplayer title for The Last of Us
- Guerrilla Games: Multiplayer project related to Horizon
What are service games?
These are usually multiplayer games designed to be supported for a long time after release. Such games often rely on a free-to-play model, aiming to attract as many players as possible at launch to create a healthy player base.
Afterwards, new content appears through seasons or similar models that give players a reason to check back in over the years.
As soon as there are more details about the individual games, you will find more on MeinMMO. At that time, it was stated that at least 10 of the games would be released by 2026. However, there are no new release details in the latest interview. They also want to continue focusing on single-player.
What other games could come? In the interview with Axios, the Head Of PlayStation Studios also revealed that some well-known Sony brands have a chance to return as service titles. However, he does not go into specifics here either.
