Now the cat is finally out of the bag: After much speculation about a restructuring of the PS Plus subscription service, we now know what the “Game Pass” for PS5 and PS4 will look like. There will be up to 700 games and the launch is in June.
In a new blog, Sony announces the restructuring of its PS Plus and PS Now services into a kind of “Game Pass”, as the competitor Microsoft calls a similar offering.
However, the offering differs slightly from the competitor and provides you with a total of 3 different tiers with varying service offerings.
An exact release date is not yet available. The blog states that the new PS Plus will come in June. We will introduce you to the 3 offerings and show you what content Sony has already mentioned.
PlayStation Plus Essential – The familiar base package
What does the package include? With Essential, you get the same service that you are used to from the PS Plus subscription. The blog states:

PlayStation Plus Extra – With 400 games for download
What does the package include? Here you get all the bonuses from “Essential” plus around 400 games to play. These include blockbusters on PS4 and PS5 from PlayStation Studios, as well as third-party games. The games cannot be streamed, only downloaded.

What does the package include? With Premium, you receive the extras from the other two packages and additionally access to around 340 more games. These include classics from PlayStation consoles 1 – 3 and also PSP games can be found. These “older” games can be streamed on PS4, PS5, and PC.
In addition, there will be some games that offer a “Game Trial”. This way you can try out some games beforehand that you may want to buy.

What happens to my subscriptions? If you are with PS Plus, you will end up in the basic package “Essential” after the transition.
PS Now will completely disappear after the transition and continues in the new Plus service. You will receive a “Premium” category subscription at no additional cost.
