PSVR2 was released almost a year ago for the PS5, but hardly anyone wants to buy the VR system. Now Sony has announced that they will temporarily halt production. Whether it will continue afterwards is unknown. Overall, it seems that Sony has realized: PSVR2 is not as attractive as assumed.
What is PSVR2? PlayStation VR 2, abbreviated PSVR2, is the successor to the “Virtual Reality” headset PSVR, which was released for the PS4. The successor is a huge upgrade over the original, capable of utilizing the performance of the PS5.
However, sales are sluggish. Now Sony has announced that they will pause production for the time being because the warehouses are full.

What exactly did Sony say? Bloomberg reports that the sales figures for PSVR2 have drastically declined since the release. No one wants to buy the very expensive system. Overall, reports suggest that Sony has produced just over two million “PS VR 2” units for the international market, and a large portion of them is now piling up in warehouses. It continues:

What are the issues with PSVR2? In tests of PSVR2, the issues of the VR system became very clear: The very high entry price of 599.99 euros, the expensive games, and the unappealing launch offerings made the system simply unattractive for many customers. This made the strengths of PSVR2, the very good technology and the great potential, appear significantly less interesting as well.
At least this could have a positive side effect. If Sony wants to boost the sales figures of PSVR2, there will likely be significant discounts on the VR system sooner or later. So if you have been considering this system but found it too expensive at 600 euros, you should keep an eye out for a good deal.
