Sony has introduced the new, expanded subscription system for PlayStation Plus, which is now divided into several different tiers. What do you think of the new system?
This is the new model: In June 2022, Sony announced significant changes to their subscription system PlayStation Plus. PS Plus is set to be expanded and will receive several new tiers, offering owners new benefits and services.
The system will split into three tiers starting in June:
- PlayStation Plus Essentials
- Cost: €8.99 monthly / €24.99 quarterly / €59.99 annually
- Two monthly downloadable games
- Exclusive discounts
- Cloud storage for saved games
- Online multiplayer access
- This is the standard PS Plus; nothing will change for existing service users.
- PlayStation Plus Extra
- Cost: €13.99 monthly / €39.99 quarterly / €99.99 annually
- Offers all the benefits of the Essential tier.
- Adds a catalog of up to 400 of the most entertaining PS4 and PS5 games, including blockbuster hits from our PlayStation Studios catalog and third parties. Games that are part of the Extra tier can be downloaded for play.
- PlayStation Plus Premium
- Cost: €16.99 monthly / €49.99 quarterly / €119.99 annually
- Offers all the benefits of the Essential and Extra tiers
- Adds up to 340 additional games, including: PS3 games that are available via cloud streaming
- A catalog of popular classic games from the original PlayStation, PS2, and PSP generations, available either via streaming or as downloads
- Offers cloud streaming access for original PlayStation, PS2, PSP, and PS4 games offered in Extra and Premium tiers in markets where PlayStation Now is currently available. Customers can stream games using PS4 and PS5 consoles as well as PCs.
- This tier also offers limited-time trials of games, allowing customers to try selected games before purchasing.
The news is hotly debated in the gaming community, and various opinions are being expressed. Some see the change as positive, while others see it as negative. And of course, there is also a comparison to the Xbox Game Pass. But what do you think?
