An employee of PlayStation has posted some pictures of his work. Among them is a PS5 controller that has not been seen anywhere else before. This appears to be a gift from Sony to its employees.
What kind of controller is this? There are no technical specifications for the controller; it seems to be an ordinary DualSense controller. However, the colors are special: The controller itself is white as usual, but the decorations are in a golden tone.
The image from Joey Rabbitt on LinkedIn, the Product Design Manager at PlayStation, shows part of the controller. It can be seen that “PS5 Launch Team” is engraved on the left grip.
Apparently, the controller is exclusively intended for employees who worked on the launch of the PlayStation 5. Even if you join the company now, you probably won’t get this controller.
What makes it so special? This version of the controller is not available for purchase. PS5 players only have the standard model for €69.99 to choose from, which can either remain as they are or be adorned.
Alternatively, you can also buy the PS5 along with the controller in black, but from third-party vendors. The controller is then opened up to be modified, which voids the warranty.
If you like the golden color, you can also go for a PlayStation 5 entirely in gold, also with a controller. However, you’ll need quite a hefty wallet for that…
Is it currently possible to buy a PlayStation 5?
Anyone generally looking to buy a PS5 is likely facing a few problems at the moment. Although retailers have a certain quota periodically, bots and scalpers manage to snag a lot of copies, leaving little for honest buyers.
However, it may be good that there will soon be a fourth ordering wave in Germany. According to reports, the stock of many European retailers is being replenished, especially in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Those who have already had the luck to pre-order probably won’t have to wait long for their package. MediaMarkt and Saturn are delivering PS5s again to players who have managed to get one. All others will probably have to be patient.
