That’s why there must be a clear boundary between console generations. If developers increasingly focus on cross-gen, the innovation of the new generation would be at risk.
This is what the Xbox chief thinks about exclusives: The Xbox chief recently commented on PlayStation exclusives. For him, this is the completely wrong approach. The Xbox is taking a completely different route and is also trying to include the old generation – especially with a view to the very successful Game Pass.
If you are considering buying a PlayStation 5, there seems to be a restriction. It appears that each household can only pre-order 1 PS5.
Several exclusive games have been announced for the PS5. Sony has now explained why you can only play these games on the PS5 and not on the PS4. According to Sony, the exclusive titles require the hardware of the PlayStation 5.
Where does the information come from? During the Game Summer Fests, gameplay with the PS5 DualSense controller was seen for the first time. In the subsequent conversation between journalist Geoff Keighley and Eric Lempel, Vice President and Head of Worldwide Marketing & Consumer Experience at PlayStation, the discussion was about the PlayStation 5.
This is what Lempel said: The Vice President explained that what is special about the PlayStation 5 is the new, powerful technology:
A lot of what you saw in the show, jumping through these different worlds, is not possible in most cases. It requires new hardware, it requires new performance. So that’s something we’re looking forward to. All these things come together. You combine that with 3D audio, with the controller, with ray tracing. I mean, these are great experiences, and these developers know how to leverage each of these features to really provide you with a unique experience. And that really speaks to what the next generation is for us.”

That’s why there are exclusives: According to Lempel, all these possibilities are only offered by the PlayStation 5. And for these reasons, there are games like “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.”
These are exclusive titles that only appear for the PlayStation 5 and do not support the PlayStation 4. Jumping through different worlds in just a few moments is not possible on the PS4. These features are only possible with new hardware and technology. With a new SSD for your PS4, you can still get quite a bit out of your old console.
And in case you haven’t seen the trailer yet, we have embedded it here for you again:
Exclusives only on PS5, otherwise they would be completely different games
What are the arguments against a port for the PS4? Lempel also explains that you can’t develop games for both the PS4 and the PS5. If you did that, then they would be two completely different games. Lempel says:
It would be a different experience. From everything Insomniac [developer of Ratchet and Clank] has told us, this hardware enables them to realize this vision. They couldn’t make it [on PlayStation 4]. If they did, it would simply be different. You would be playing a different kind of game, and the experience would be different.
