Sony explains how you can expand the PS5’s SSD – But a crucial piece of information is missing

By now, we know from Sony how to expand the PS5 storage. But which SSDs actually fit into the next-gen console PlayStation 5? We now know the first compatible SSDs thanks to savvy gamers.

So far, Sony has released the first explanations, how you can expand the PS5’s SSD. Because there is a spot designated in the PS5 for this purpose.

With the expansion of storage, a major wish of gamers is fulfilled. However, many users find the information too general, as they particularly lack specific indications of which SSDs can actually be used.

People don’t know which SSDs they can install in the PS5

This is the problem: Many users had hoped that the blog post from Sony would provide all the important information for a storage expansion.

But the most important information, namely which M.2 SSDs can now be installed in the PS5, is missing. Sony has not yet published a list (so-called “whitelist”) where compatible SSDs can be found.

Although Sony describes many technical details about a possible upgrade, gamers want concrete options. Many have waited long enough for the update and now want to expand their storage. But it seems that it’s not as simple as expected.

The first working SSDs for the PS5 are now known

Which M.2 SSD fits now? Many users on reddit have started testing various SSDs with the PS5. Two SSDs, the WD Black SN850 and the Seagate FireCuda 530, have been confirmed as compatible by some reddit users. The Corsair MP600 in the Pro version also fits, but the normal version is not fast enough:

What you should note: So far, the update is only valid for users who have received the beta update on the PlayStation 5. Others have to wait until Sony releases a possible storage upgrade worldwide for all consoles.
