According to a job posting from Sony itself, there was apparently a release period for the PS5. The new console was supposed to be released in October 2020. However, this has not materialized.
Update 14:30: The Japanese news portal Famitsu inquired with Sony about the date. They confirmed that it was a website error.
The release period is still considered to be “late 2020”.
Post at 14:10 – What does the leak say? Twitter user Nibel shared the translation of a job posting from the Japanese website Rikunavi NEXT, which is a job board where, according to its own statement, large companies like Amazon post job openings.
In a paragraph of the ad, it apparently states that the PlayStation 5 is supposed to be released in October 2020. The employer is said to be Sony itself.
Even a Google translation of the website into German yields a similar wording. It says: “to create for the PlayStation 5, which is expected to be released in October 2020.”
How likely is the date? Generally, there is nothing against a release in October. This would still place the console within the timeframe of the 2020 holiday season, for which it has been announced so far.
Nevertheless, this date would be much earlier than many had expected. Especially considering the situation regarding Corona, experts rather expected a delay than an early release. However, it has been shown in the past that a release before competitor Microsoft can be an advantage.
There is also the possibility that this “leak” is a translation error or a faulty posting in Japan. So far, there is no official confirmation from Sony.
Xbox coming for Thanksgiving? Microsoft also had a kind of leak. For a short time, a message was visible on the official website, stating that the Xbox Series is coming for Thanksgiving, i.e., late November.
This message, however, was supposed to be incorrect, as Larry Hryb, the Director of Programming at Microsoft, stated just a few minutes later.
