Looking at the recent patches and nerfs in Diablo 4, one can see that various caves have received adjustments to XP and loot. The developers explain why these farming and XP spots are constantly being nerfed in the latest Campfire.
In the last Campfire, a kind of livestream with the developers of Diablo 4, General Manager Rod Fergusson and Game Director Joe Shely discussed their balancing philosophy for the hack and slay.
They also mentioned the nerfs of the various caves in Diablo and why a single location as the optimal way to level up and farm is not their goal. They also talked about the loot cave from Destiny 1 and why it was a problem in 2014.

This should never exist
What was the Loot-Cave in Destiny? In Destiny 1, the Loot-Cave was a small cave from which endless enemies came, having a small chance to drop legendary and exotic items. This was possible because endless relatively easy-to-kill enemies came out of the cave if Guardians stayed at a distance and did not block the spawn.
The “Loot-Cave” was particularly popular at the beginning of Destiny 1, as the loot from other sources was scarce and everyone gathered here and randomly shot at the mobs coming from the cave.
We took a closer look at the Loot-Caves from Destiny in an article.
Why was this a problem? Well, the developers at Bungie essentially said: We created a huge science-fiction world for you to explore, and you should find better items along the way. But you are just standing in front of a tiny cave and doing nothing else. You are only utilizing a tiny fraction of our game.
That was not the plan. Ultimately, Bungie removed the Loot-Cave, despite its popularity. They also closed down “new Loot-Caves”, i.e., new farming spots.
Blizzard closes down overly strong farming spots – Wants more variety and balance
What is the situation now in Diablo 4? Something similar is currently happening with many dungeons and caves in Diablo 4 that were used for effective farming and leveling. Fergusson says:
I wanted to create the meme, “we have a balanced game where there is no meta and every build is useful.”
Blizzard is nerfing the various caves so that Diablo 4 is experienced and played in a balanced way. Every class and every type of progression should remain fun and not be focused on various loot caves.

Joe Shelly wants players to have many options for looting and leveling. After many nerfs, buffs are also expected:
Our philosophy is to improve the selection. For that, we look at things that are not working and we make them better.
Ultimately, the effectiveness of the patches and nerfs will only show after some time, and the first season will bring some changes.
