A Twitch streamer held an auction for a good cause. A gaming session with shooter star Michael “shroud” Grzesiek was auctioned off for $53,000 (€43,700) – to another Twitch streamer.
Why would someone spend so much money? The high amount for the hour of gaming with shroud was raised during a charity auction.
In a charity auction, prominent people donate specific items or services, which are then bid on to raise money for a good cause.
It is common to auction off a dinner with a Hollywood star or a signed, famous item, like “The baseball bat that hit a crucial home run.” These are items of high symbolic value.
A streamer has now transferred this concept to Twitch and was quite successful with it.
Thousands of dollars for xQc’s jersey or an hour with shroud
The highest bid: The most money came from the auction “An hour of gaming with shroud”.
Shroud is considered “the human aim-bot” and is one of the absolute stars on Twitch. Apparently, many people were eager to play with him for an hour, bidding tens of thousands of US dollars.
In the end, Twitch streamer Ludwig (1.5 million followers) won the gaming hour with a bid of $53,000 and was ecstatic. He shouted, “I bought shroud!” and got even louder when shroud sent him a private message and followed him.
Maya said in the Twitch stream: Ludwig probably could have just messaged shroud to play together for the hour, but that’s not the point.
What else was auctioned off? A gold-colored shovel signed by Sodapoppin went for $31,000, who is one of the biggest fan favorites on Twitch who engages in wild antics with succubi. The shovel was secured by Twitch streamer Mizkif.
A bargain was the jersey of Rust villain xQc from his time at Luminosity – it cost $12,500. The Gucci shoes from rapper T-Pain went for just over $12,000.
In total, over $500,000 was raised at the auction – a huge success for Maya and her animal welfare project.
Providing a home for exotic animals
What was the money raised for? The 22-year-old Twitch streamer Maya Higa has around 380,000 followers on Twitch. Her focus is animal welfare, especially birds of prey like hawks and eagles. She refers to herself as “Bird Girl.”
On February 10, she held a big auction that averaged 44,220 viewers on Twitch. She raised money for the “Alveus Sanctuary”: her own animal welfare project in Texas.
The project aims to protect animals whose habitats are threatened by humans. The “Alveus Sanctuary” is designed to be a space where people can interact with exotic animals: In a video describing the concept, various snakes, kangaroos, zebras, or cockatoos are shown.
The project aims to provide a home for animals that cannot be released back into the wild. Visitors should have the opportunity to connect with the animals here. Additionally, the project is intended to serve as a center for creating content about the animals and thus educating viewers about them.
The sums shown in the stream also clearly indicate how well-paid many Twitch streamers and YouTubers are, who were able to bid on these items. These are dimensions where “normal earners” can only rub their eyes:
