The battle royale craze has also arrived in the cult game Super Mario Bros. And if you like, you can start playing right away.
What kind of game is this? As more and more games offer a battle royale mode, such as GTA 5, Battlefield 5 and even Fallout 76, now it’s Mario’s turn.
In Mario Royale, you play as Mario against 99 other Marios on the familiar maps from Super Mario Bros. However, it doesn’t follow the usual battle royale format, as you cannot directly attack other players. Instead, you interact with the game world. A fan created the game.
- If you kick a green shell around, other players can be hit by it and lose their lives
- You can destroy blocks that other players are standing on
- Mushrooms as power-ups appear in the world but can only be collected by one player
The only way to “directly” enter the game of others is the star. If you collect this and run through other players, they die.
Another difference from the classic battle royale is that you fight to be the first to reach Bowser. Whoever gets through the world first and reaches the axe behind Bowser wins. There are also victory royales for 2nd and 3rd place.
Games are played on the maps World 1, World 2, and World 3, which are randomly selected in the map rotation.
Where can you play it? You can play the game in your browser. Just visit the developer’s website, infernoplus.com, and get started.
Create a name there first and then click on GO. You’ll then enter a lobby that will gradually fill up with more Marios.
How is it played? At the keyboard, you use WASD to move, Shift to sprint, and Spacebar to jump. The special thing about this browser game is that it also supports controllers. So if you want, you can grab your controller instead of the keyboard and run through the levels with it.
It is unclear how long the game will remain available on the website. The creator, InfernoPlus, mentions in the video that Nintendo may see a copyright infringement in his work and he may have to remove it.
