Starfield has demanding system requirements and you need a reasonably fast gaming PC if you actually want to enjoy the game. You can also play Starfield with weak hardware, but you don’t really want that. Because then the game looks anything but nice.
With every game, there is debate about optimization, as many PC releases were catastrophic in 2023. Players also wanted to know from the head of Starfield why the game wasn’t optimized. And Todd Howard has an answer ready.
A next-generation game needs a good gaming PC
What does Todd Howard answer? In an interview with Bloomberg, the interviewer wanted to know from Howard why Starfield wasn’t optimized for PC. Howard was visibly irritated by the question and then smiled, saying that the game was optimized (via ign.com):
We have. It runs great. It’s a next-generation PC game. We are really pushing the technology, so you may need to upgrade your PC for this game. But it has a lot of great things to offer and the fan reactions are fantastic.
How is the performance? There are already extensive tests on the performance of Starfield and the results are surprisingly positive. Many state that no Bethesda game has run as smoothly at release as Starfield. An SSD is also a must according to testers, as loading times would otherwise be forever long.
In fact, the new sci-fi game runs excellently on Steam and Xbox. There are still a few issues. Overall, however, one could experience Starfield without major problems.
