One month after the final release of Last Epoch, some players find that they prefer a few aspects of Diablo 4. They want to return and are cautiously optimistic regarding Season 4.
After five years, Last Epoch left Early Access status on February 21 and was finally released. Many players have now reached the endgame and criticize: In the long run, the content will become boring, as Last Epoch somehow lacks a goal to strive for.
Exactly the same problems occurred with Diablo 4 at release and shortly thereafter. Here, the complaint quickly arose: Diablo 4 has no endgame at all because there is no content to farm.
In a Reddit post, players currently note: After spending a few hours in Last Epoch, they want to return to Diablo 4. They now appreciate many aspects of the game much more and seem to look forward to the updates in Season 4.
Recently, ray tracing was introduced in Diablo 4, providing the game with improved graphics:
Players are “cautiously optimistic” after new announcements
On Reddit, user “Metallifan33” turned to the community on March 27, especially casual players, and asked in the title: “Has anyone tried Last Epoch and returned to Diablo 4?”
He is currently trying out Last Epoch and wonders if he wants to stick with it:
- He likes a lot of things, but the graphics and overall smoothness feel more like Diablo 3 to him.
- He knows it’s more about the items and crafting, but the gameplay cannot be overlooked.
- He is curious about what others think.
Why are players returning? The comment with the most upvotes comes from “DaftWarrior”. He writes: “I invested 20 hours and stopped. The “moment-to-moment gameplay” [essentially: the core game feel] did not captivate me. In the next season, I will focus intensively on Diablo 4 again.”
User “jabirttok” has spent 150 hours in Last Epoch over the past month and draws a conclusion:
I invested 150 hours in Last Epoch last month and it was great, but when I returned to Diablo 4, I appreciated how smooth everything feels. The combat feels great […]. I will definitely spend a lot of time in Season 4.
A week ago, I caught myself wishing Diablo had the crafting system of Last Epoch. Then they did the Campfire Chat. I am cautiously optimistic.
In the last “Campfire Chat” livestream, the developers explained the changes for Season 4 regarding the loot system in Diablo 4. There will also be new crafting possibilities, and loot is expected to improve overall:
In the endgame of Last Epoch, there is “less to do than in Diablo 4”
What do other players say about this? “TheGreenViper” draws a comparison after 400 hours in both games. He enjoys Last Epoch, especially regarding builds, skill trees, and crafting. However, he finds the endgame poor and “extremely repetitive”, noting there is less to do than in Diablo 4. Additionally, he mentions that the story is bad and there are too many bugs. Last Epoch is “worth a try, but it’s not the perfect game.”
And “acog” comments that he is glad Diablo 4 “copied” Last Epoch’s affix crafting system for the upcoming season. Returning to Diablo 4 reminded him how refined the game engine is. In the future, he wants to switch between the games. While Last Epoch adds new bosses, he is more excited about the new endgame content “The Pit” and the crafting system in Diablo 4.
Another user notes that he understands the hype around Last Epoch but will return to Diablo 4 for Season 4. The story of Diablo 4 is better, the gameplay is smoother, and it simply looks better.
No matter whether you play Last Epoch or Diablo 4, switch from one to the other, or regularly visit both: 2024 is already great if you like games like Diablo 4 – and it will only get better.
