After a few days in early access, Space Marine 2 was released on September 9 for all players on PC, PS5, and Xbox. The new marines dive headfirst into the fray – and overestimate themselves considerably. A more experienced player advises: ‘Take it slow.’

This is the error: Space Marine 2 offers four difficulty levels in the campaign and in the ‘Operations’ or missions, that is, the coop PvE mode. The highest difficulty level is Angel of Death (campaign) or Merciless (PvE).
On Reddit, a Space Marine who could play earlier advises: ‘Don’t rush into the merciless difficulty with level 1. You will absolutely get wrecked. End of story. Take your time, work your way up. For the Emperor!’
The difficulties in the coop mode have specific level recommendations. ‘Minimal’ is intended for level 1, but ‘Merciless’ is only for level 15. Many new players don’t seem to care about that.
“Cannot find players on lowest difficulty”
In the comments, users say that it is almost impossible to find players on the lowest difficulty. There is no one to join you or whom you can join: ‘I’ve been trying this for an hour but it seems no one does that.’
There is no shame in working your way up from the bottom – especially since it is important to level your class and weapon first. With a completely fresh character, you can’t do anything on Merciless anyway.
Others report that even on the second highest difficulty they are still taking hits – or that they kick players below the level recommendation for Merciless outright. It’s so harsh that you can hardly succeed without the appropriate equipment: ‘Even if you have experience with a max-level character, you lack the strong perks of your class.’
It is simply not or only difficult to complete the missions if one or more Space Marines are not strong enough for the number of enemies.
