The MMO New World is suffering from player decline after a fantastic release. This is currently the biggest problem for many players in the MMO. Without players, many activities become impossible. Although New World plans to merge servers, it is not happening quickly enough for players.
What is New World’s biggest problem right now? In the eyes of many players, New World is currently suffering because there are too few players online at the same time on many servers. However, New World is designed as an MMO to have a populated server.
Through the free server transfers it seems that some players are now switching from rather empty servers to the populated ones. This exacerbates the problem on the servers with few players.
“My Server is Unplayable”
On platforms like reddit some players are now expressing their opinions on the effects of massive player decline on their server:
- User Trevorjrt6 says: My server is becoming very unplayable very quickly. Every town is being downgraded to level 2 or 3, after the majority were at 4 and 5. If this continues, we soon won’t be able to craft anything in the endgame. The game requires an active server, otherwise the systems collapse. This needs to be priority number one, it’s more important than fixing any other bug.
- Jeremy9931 says: His server is down to a maximum of 300 people, after the large guilds left with the server transfer. The towns would be downgraded and the invasions aren’t filling up: “Send halp plz,” he pleads.
- Mojo 2241 says: “Oh God, I just checked my server and it’s only at 9% capacity with 177 people.”
“I Also Transferred to a Full Server”
Is this a problem in Germany as well? We had an article on MeinMMO on Sunday stating that New World plans to merge servers. Many recognize the problem in the comments:
- Threepwood writes: “I also transferred to a full server. On my old server, there were on average 1000 players active, which is simply too few if you don’t want to be stuck in queues forever. […] At least Outpost should have them queue per server pool, that would already ease some of the stress.”
- A user with barcode names says: “The system scales terribly poorly. If there are more, too few can participate, and players miss out. If there are a few less, it’s not enough to function well, it’s going to turn into a bigger problem sooner or later.”
What’s next? Amazon has announced that server mergers are “on the horizon.” However, they want to be cautious, as much has gone wrong in the past.
For players stuck on a “dead server,” it seems that the server transfers cannot come quickly enough. They are urging Amazon to hurry in posts: The game simply isn’t fun anymore.
“Rural Exodus” as a Problem in New World
What is the problem? New World has “many players” in absolute terms, but they have “too few players for the many servers” that they opened during the turbulent release phase by the dozen.
New World really seems designed to have a specific number of players per server: If there are too many players on a server, there are long queues and frustration. If there are too few, many activities are not possible in the game.
On the other hand, these “limited servers” give the game a unique feeling, really playing in a world where many others are known. That’s exactly the MMORPG feeling that many have missed in modern MMORPGs.
Now Amazon has to quickly find a way to solve this problem.
