Dead by Daylight as a solo survivor can be a special challenge. But with these 4 perks here, it goes quite well.
In Dead by Daylight, survival often depends on the group. No matter how well you play, at some point everyone finds themselves in a situation where they rely on other survivors. But without communication between each other, you are often at a disadvantage.
Those who go in as a “solo survivor” play the horror game the way the developers intended, but have clear disadvantages compared to players who coordinate through Discord or TeamSpeak.
Therefore, we have compiled a list of perks for you that are optimal for solo survivors. With these perks, you can counterbalance some of the disadvantages of being a “solo player” and thus increase your chances of experiencing the end of a match and successfully escaping.
Update: The article was updated on June 16, 2021, and brought up to date with Patch 5.0.0, the Resident Evil chapter.
Kindred
Where does the perk come from? Neutral – all survivors can learn it from the start.
What does “Kindred” do? Kindred has several effects. On one hand, the perk ensures that you can see all other survivors as an aura when a teammate is hooked. At the same time, you see the killer’s aura if he is nearby the hook.
This bonus applies to all other survivors in your group if you are the one who is hanging on the hook. Then all other survivors can see each other and the killer near the hook.
Why is “Kindred” so good? Kindred is one of the strongest perks for solo players since it offers almost all the advantages that direct communication through Discord or TeamSpeak would provide. You can instantly see if another survivor is trying to rescue the colleague in distress and also whether the killer is camping or in which direction he has moved away from the hook.
With this information, you can make thoughtful decisions, such as whether to attempt a rescue yourself or whether to stay at your generator and repair it.
At the same time, Kindred also ensures that all other survivors can see each other when you are on the hook. This way, they also have the information on whether someone is trying to rescue you. This knowledge massively increases the chance that someone will indeed come to help and that not everyone thinks, “Oh, someone else will take care of it.”
All these factors make Kindred the ultimate perk for solo survivors. No perk provides more information and balances out the disadvantages of a solo queue as well.
Bond
Where does the perk come from? Dwight Fairfield. The teachable version is available at level 30.
What does “Bond” do? “Bond” reveals all other survivors as an aura within a radius of 36 meters around your character.
Why is “Bond” so good? Bond is another informational perk that will often save your life. Survivors are generally more effective when they cooperate. That is, when they heal each other (as healing yourself takes time) or work on generators together.
If you are injured, this perk guides you directly to nearby survivors so you can ask them for help to patch yourself up.
But the generous radius of 36 meters brings even more. With aura sight, you can also easily see if a survivor near you is being pursued by the killer. Then it is easy to determine whether you should hide, for example, because the killer’s radius is close, or whether you can continue doing what you were doing – such as repairing a generator, healing someone, or searching a chest.
Borrowed Time
Where does the perk come from? William “Bill” Overbeck. The teachable version is available at level 35.
What does “Borrowed Time” do? When you rescue a survivor from the hook, they receive the “Condition” effect for 12 seconds. If they are hit by the killer within the next 12 seconds, they will not go down but instead suffer “Deep Wounds.” Only another hit will bring them down.
Why is “Borrowed Time” so good? Borrowed Time is a top perk whether solo or together. It is a good tool against killers who are nearby the hook and can lead to many rescuing actions. At the same time, the perk ensures that you gain favor with your teammates. Those who rescue others near the killer without this perk are considered “greedy idiots” who only want to farm blood points. Those who attempt it with this perk are heroes and good teammates.
Iron Will
Where does the perk come from? Jake Park. The teachable version is available at level 30.
What does “Iron Will” do? This perk makes your character’s pain sounds 100% quieter – essentially not audible.
Why is “Iron Will” so good? For killers, it is usually very easy to track a survivor after they have already been injured. Because then the killer doesn’t just have to use their eyes, but can even blindly follow the loud moans of pain from the survivor. However, if that information is no longer available, your chances of escaping again are quite good – or of not being accidentally discovered later.
If you’re more of a killer, here are the best killer perks in Dead by Daylight.
Which perks are still useful? In addition to our 4 top recommendations, there are of course several other perks that are generally worthwhile and that one can exchange for one of the perks mentioned above. Good alternatives would be:
- Quick: If you slide over a window or a palette while being chased, you get a short speed boost.
- Inner Strength: After breaking a totem, you can go into a locker and will be healed automatically.
- Urban Evasion: While crouched, you move 100% faster than usual.
What perks do you like to use when playing solo in Dead by Daylight? Do you have favorites that you unlock for every character?
