Gedonia is a new RPG on Steam, released on October 14, 2022. It takes place in a classic open world, immersing players in a fantasy setting reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.
The special thing about this RPG is that it is developed by a single person – Oleg Kazakov. Gedonia can definitely be classified as an indie RPG. The development took 3.5 years, he writes on his Twitter account. There, Kazakov regularly shares the current status of his game.
The reviews on Steam have been very good so far. The RPG has received nearly 1,400 ratings, with 90% being positive.
A classic school fantasy RPG
What kind of game is it? In Gedonia, you create a character and set out to explore the vast open world. You are an adventurer leaving your hometown to uncover the secrets of the world of Gedonia.
You can develop your character over time into a mage, warrior, assassin, craftsman, or something in between. You don’t have to commit to a specific role, but freely choose which skills you want to enhance.
The story can take different turns. Depending on which faction you choose, you encounter different NPCs and quests. It has a high replay value.
Visually, the RPG is reminiscent of the early days of World of Warcraft or The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall from 1996. The graphics may seem outdated, but still charming, especially considering that a single person developed the game.
In the video, you can see the official trailer for the release of Gedonia:
What additional content does it offer?
- Dungeons with powerful bosses that grant you valuable rewards
- Recruit NPCs to fight with you in the group
- Challenges and puzzles distributed throughout the open world
- Multiple ways to complete quests
- You can build and decorate your own house
- Farming is possible, and you can even keep animals
Unfortunately, Gedonia currently has no multiplayer mode. Whether one is planned for the future is not yet disclosed by the developer.
Who is it worth it for? Those who like to explore alone in an RPG, seek new challenges, or simply want to relax and explore everything, should take a look at Gedonia. It might also be worthwhile for fans of the Skyrim series. Those who played the older parts might experience a bit of nostalgia here.
However, if you value the latest graphics and a flawless, finished game, you are in the wrong place. Gedonia does not look perfect and comes with some bugs that the developer still wants to fix.
Anyone wanting to try Gedonia can purchase it for €12.49 on Steam.
What do you think of the RPG? Have you tested it or do you plan to? Does the graphics evoke nostalgia for you, or does it seem rather off-putting? Do you wish for a multiplayer mode for the game? What do you think of the solo developer? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments here on MeinMMO!
