For The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, PS4, Xbox One) the new chapter “Summerset” has recently been announced. But are the promised contents enough? What does the community think about the new chapter?
The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is about to get bigger. On June 6 (Early Access on PC from May 21), the new chapter “Summerset” will be released. Once again, there’s a large island full of content. In addition, there is a new raid, a large story full of quests, jewel crafting, and a new faction where you can learn additional skills.
However, a new class is missing. In the previous chapter Morrowind, there was the new Warden, this time there’s “only” a new skill line for all heroes. Also, something really new is missing. The long-promised spell weaving feature, which was supposed to allow players to create their own spells, is likely not included in Summerset.
So what does the ESO community say about Summerset?
Flying mounts and strange towers
In the official ESO forum, the general sentiment is positive, but the atmosphere is not really euphoric. Too much was likely known in advance. Dataminers revealed almost everything about the new ESO chapter in advance. Only regarding spell weaving did they seem to be mistaken.
Nevertheless, the new chapter itself has been well received. Many players like the new region of the Summerset Isles. Some also complained about the allegedly unflattering appearance of the legendary Crystal Tower. This mysterious structure looks like a “giant concrete cucumber”.
Just no flying mounts!
Other players are concerned about possible flying mounts. A picture showed a flying griffon, on which an elf was riding. Some players want flying mounts, while others strongly oppose it. However, it is unlikely that players can fly on griffons, as community manager Kai Schober explained.
The new crafting for jewelry has overall been well received. While some players would have preferred it as part of a general update, the overall sentiment is positive that this feature made it into the new chapter. Additionally, some players hoped for a graphics update. ESO looks quite dated now.
Some players found it fair that Summerset is 10 euros cheaper than Morrowind. After all, there is apparently also less content in the new chapter.
Razum Dar is back!
On Reddit, some players also lament the somewhat meager contents of the new chapter. A new class or at least a new weapon skill line would have been highly welcomed. Some players feel that the new chapter is too bland.
The setting in the Summerset Isles has also been well received. Many players are especially looking forward to Razum Dar, the cunning and lovable Khajiit master spy from the cinematic teaser.
Many cool and funny quests with the cat person are expected. Just for that, the new chapter is already worth it for some players.
This is what the Mein-MMO community says
Here at Mein-MMO, the response to the new chapter in ESO is also “positively restrained”. Most comments so far show that you are indeed looking forward to the new chapter, but still expected “a little more”.
Here as well, many are disappointed that there is no spell weaving and no new class. However, Razum Dar and the new areas and Psijik skills are well received here as well.
Here are some selected opinions:
Soldier224 in a discussion about whether Summerset can hold its own against Morrowind: “… the main features are [compared to Morrowind] already of equal size. Even without a class and spell weaving.” masterfarr and Skjarbrand add that the upgrade costs 10 euros less than Morrowind did at the time. And preorders of Summerset receive Morrowind for free. They consider it a good deal.
Maledicus: “While I would have been happy about a new class, I didn’t expect it. However, it was about time to introduce new weapon types. Many players have wished for this, especially for Magicka-based characters. Things like scepters & off-hand items would be good … Based on what is now known, my anticipation for the new chapter is more subdued. It was very different with Morrowind, especially because of the Warden. Ok, a new skill line is also something; let’s see what is all included. And finally, jewelry crafting as a profession was also overdue.”
Starthilfer: “I am already looking forward and am excited about the new area. And if I interpret correctly, also about the Mephala story.
Real4: “Too bad there is no new class :/ I would gladly have paid 10€ more for that. Or finally the spell weaving. A complete overhaul of the graphics engine would also be timely. But somehow I am still looking forward to it.”
Micro_Cuts: “It definitely looks good! But nothing has been announced that would currently bring me back, to be honest. For current players, however, it is certainly a great expansion.”
Subjunkie: “Hey, Raz is also here, then I can also endure those arrogant high elf snobs. 😀 And jewelry crafting, very nice!”
All these details are included in the trailers for The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset.
