Time is a valuable resource that we need to allocate in our daily lives. You told us how much of it you spend gaming each week.
Here’s what it was about: In a survey we asked you how much time you spend gaming each week. After all, free time is precious and many of us have other hobbies alongside gaming, not to mention important things like school, work, friends, and family.
You let us know your answers to this question and the survey collected over 4,500 votes. Here’s what you told us.
These are the results: A total of 4,573 readers participated in the survey at the time of evaluation on September 20, 2022. The distribution of votes was as follows:
- 10 to 20 hours: 1,253 votes (27.39 %)
- 20 to 30 hours: 1,072 votes (23.44 %)
- More than 40 hours: 904 votes (19.77 %)
- 30 to 40 hours: 753 votes (16.46 %)
- Less than 10 hours: 591 votes (12.92 %)
The majority of you are likely “evening gamers” who spend some rounds online with your friends after work or a few hours in single-player.
However, it shouldn’t be too little because less than 10 hours weekly is only the case for a minority.
You used to game more
Here’s what the comments say: In the comment section under the survey, some of you mentioned in your posts that you used to play more than you do nowadays. The reasons for this are diverse. Some of the most cited reasons are the “RL commitments” like school and job. But family, with whom you spend your time (or who occupy the game consoles), is also a factor.
10-30 would be the correct answer. Since it fluctuates quite a bit. But I stated 20-30 for now. I game about 10 hours a week with a buddy alone. Alone really depends on how exhausting work was or if I have plans on the weekend.

However, for not all of you, the declining gaming time each week is only due to a lack of time because of real life or other hobbies. Disappointment with the current games on the market also plays a role and was highlighted in several comments.
The last big peak was with Elden Ring, that really escalated. Normally I average 10-15 hours a week, if at all. But that’s more due to the underwhelming games rather than a lack of time.

Now “only” 20-30 hours, whereas it used to often be >40 hours.
This is mainly due to the multiplayer titles becoming worse year by year, especially PvP titles. The long-term enjoyment of gameplay is increasingly declining, partly due to changes aimed solely at the publishers’ profit, while quality and general gameplay suffer, but also often caused by the behavior of today’s players.

There were also comments that the gaming time fluctuates when you find an exciting game or a blockbuster like Elden Ring comes out, where you can sink countless hours into. In that case, the weekly gametime counter can also exceed 40 hours.
Others game even less
This is how it looks in other communities: Our colleagues from GamePro and GameStar conducted the same survey among their users. Their results indicate that multiplayer and MMO players spend more time gaming each week.
At both sister sites, the gaming time of most readers is at a maximum of 20 hours per week. Only very few of their community members exceed the 40-hour mark.
