For over a week, pre-order customers have been able to enjoy themselves on the test servers of ArcheAge Unchained. In the meantime, there are also more and more comments on the new MMORPG. Many of them are positive.
What is ArcheAge? ArcheAge itself is a sandbox MMORPG with many freedoms. It relies on:
- 2 playable factions and the possibility of joining pirates.
- 220 combinations of class specializations.
- An open world with PvP.
- Visible housing in the game world.
- Sea battles.
So far, the game is Free2Play and an optional subscription can be purchased. However, this subscription is mandatory for many game content. In addition, further advantages can be purchased for real money.
What makes Unchained different? Unchained will offer the same gameplay content as the previous ArcheAge. However, it will be Buy2Play and in return completely avoid Pay2Win mechanics and also forgo a subscription model.
ArcheAge Unchained will be released on October 15th. Until October 13th, the game can still be tried out for free by everyone on the test servers.
Is Unchained the ArcheAge that everyone wished for?
What do well-known testers say? ArcheAge Unchained is well received by the first testers. The well-known YouTuber TheLazyPeon tested the MMORPG and published a very entertaining video about it. He sees many good sides in ArcheAge:
- A very good combat system for tab-targeting.
- Best MMORPG in terms of sea content.
- No gender lock.
- Diverse class system.
- A truly open world without loading screens.
- Realistic housing.
- Good graphics that will be further improved with the new update.
- Good trading system.
- Currently no Pay2Win in sight.
The YouTuber has concerns about the following contents:
- The quests are very boring and repetitive.
- The fact that there are significantly fewer quests after level 30 can be very confusing for newcomers.
- The balance of the class specializations.
He himself wants to continue playing ArcheAge Unchained after the release. If the game actually remains free of Pay2Win and is successful, he sees TheLazyPeon as a model for future MMORPGs from the East.
How do players react on reddit? Even beforehand many players were looking forward to Unchained. The reason for this is that ArcheAge is considered one of the currently best MMORPGs, which however has driven away many fans due to Pay2Win.
They could now envision a return:

What do players see negatively? Many reddit users actually only have concerns about Pay2Win. They fear that the publisher Gamigo will not keep the promise and later make changes to the content in the shop:
- SephithDarknesse: “They will do whatever brings them the most money. And if they think players will pay for it, then they will also introduce Pay2Win. [..] There is no reason not to do that.”
- Killerkonnat on the statement that Unchained will never be Pay2Win: “You have never played a game published by Gamigo, have you?”
However, if ArcheAge Unchained keeps its promises, then this could mean a second spring for the sandbox MMORPG. Even on the test servers there were long waiting times for the game. So the interest is definitely there.
