In The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, buckets are the tools of master thieves, and in the new Bethesda RPG Starfield, items also facilitate your heists.
Lockpicks and sneaking – that’s essentially the mechanics for stealing in Bethesda’s games. This is no different in Starfield, even if “lockpicking” works a bit differently.
Ah yes, the new name for the lockpicks is also a highlight: Digiditich. Sounds like the username of an older gentleman who has just discovered X.com.
But Skyrim provided another tool for master thieves: buckets, deep bowls, or even baskets. As long as the items were big and deep enough for an NPC’s head to fit in, you could commit the worst crimes before the concealed eyes of the witnesses.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t work in Starfield. But that doesn’t stop players from trying the nonsense anyway. And indeed: buckets are also the tools of master thieves in Starfield – any other item works too.
Here you can watch an atmospheric trailer for Starfield:
“Bethesda games require Bethesda solutions”
What kind of trick is this? If there’s an item lying around that is well-guarded but too valuable to leave with its current owners, grab a larger item that’s light enough to lift:
- Keyboard: Y
- Controller: Hold A
You can rotate, flip, and place the item on heads, cabinets, or planet surfaces. With this mechanic, you can also decorate your ship – the items stay in place. This way, you can store many additional items in the ship.
Now you can use the item in your hand to maneuver the object of desire out of the sight of annoying witnesses:
Appropriately for the Skyrim backstory, the user in the Reddit video naturally uses a bucket, the best lockpick in every Bethesda world.
In the Reddit thread on the topic, the mood is lively and bursting with innuendos.
It is often noted that people remember the store Silver Rush in Fallout: New Vegas. There were valuable weapons on the counter, and they wanted to be moved a good piece before the nasty security guards stopped looking skeptical.
In any case, it’s reassuring to know that in Bethesda games, not only the war always remains the same.
