The creation of the legendary item “Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros” causes a Classic-WoW server to lag. No wonder, with hundreds watching.
In the classic version of World of Warcraft, legendary items are a rare sight. When you see someone carrying Medivh’s Staff, the sword Thunderfury, or Sulfuras, you know that a lot of work and time went into it. Such a feat is duly recognized by other players – especially when a “Streamer Guild” has contributed to it.
What happened? Along with many other streamers, Asmongold, one of the current top streamers, plays on the Faerlina server. There, he is not only the figurehead of the guild Olympus but also of other guilds, as one alone was not enough for his viewers and fans. This means that the guilds Olympus II, Olympus III, and Olympus IV are also represented and quite active.
When the guild could finally craft the first hammer “Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros” on the realm, hundreds of players were present, causing massive lags.
Not Asmongold got the hammer: Asmongold himself is not the bearer of the hammer, even though he contributed significantly. His character was able to craft the epic “Sulfuron Hammer,” which is needed as the base for the legendary weapon. The weapon was then passed on to the winner of the “Eye of Sulfuras,” who could then create the legendary hammer himself.
Server stalls, cannot process requests: When the player Octobers crafted the hammer, hundreds of players had gathered in Ironforge. There were such delays that Asmongold couldn’t even “view” the player to check if he had already equipped the hammer. That only succeeded after many seconds. Strangely enough, you couldn’t really “see” the character, as there were simply too many players standing on top of each other to recognize anything.
This event beautifully shows how great the joy and interest in World of Warcraft Classic is and how special obtaining a legendary item in this world was. It is a remarkable group achievement and not something a single player could accomplish.
