On Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Season 1 kicks off on 03.12 with an extensive Battle Pass and new content. The new Ground War map “Port of Verdansk“ features an old acquaintance.
What’s going on with CoD? The major multiplayer shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare enters its first season tomorrow, on 03.12, complete with a Battle Pass and new content.
The developers at Infinity Ward invited some players over the weekend, who were able to share gameplay of the new Ground War map “Port of Verdansk”.
New Ground War map “Port of Verdansk” revealed
However, the map is not entirely new. The capture point C in the middle will likely be particularly appreciated by some former Modern Warfare players, as the building is a replica of a popular CoD 4 map.
Which fan favorite is coming back? This is the map “Vacant”, which was playable in the first Modern Warfare and MW2.
The developers are being very clever and bringing the popular map as part of the new large map. The map has been recreated 1 to 1, and even well-known cover elements have been dressed up but changed little.
What does the rest of the new map look like? YouTuber “Inkslasher” was one of the lucky players invited by the developers to take a first look at the new content of the upcoming Battle Pass.
In his English video, you can already see a lot of the new map. “Inkslasher” is impressed by the developers’ trick of incorporating the well-known map “Vacant” into the Ground War map and is excited to see which map gems will be added to the game in the future.
How is the map structured? The map will be one of the smaller Ground War maps and offers a clear base structure.
Here are the key details of the map
- Facing the sea, one team’s starting point has the E-flag, and A is further inland, also as a starting point, but for the other team.
- These two points are the only open flags, protected only by a few shipping containers.
- Two points, B and D, are in the green area shown in the photo and are both in large warehouses, with point D being more vulnerable according to “Inkslasher” due to many skylights.
- According to him, tanks are hardly helpful for capturing these points, as the large war machines don’t have proper access to them.
- The blue area in the photo is the “Vacant” area
- The complex around C is modeled after an old CoD map and resembles an abandoned office.
- A high elevated highway runs through the middle of the harbor area, providing a good view of the map.
- Despite the rather built-up points, there will likely be some snipers sitting here, check out our sniper tips if you want to try that too.
- There are many port-themed elements, such as containers, cranes, and logistical equipment.

Flag E is to the south, Flag A is to the north
What does the Battle Pass offer besides new maps? The developers promise so much free content with the Battle Pass as never before and expectations are accordingly high. If leaks are to be believed, “Vacant” is also coming as its own map.
In addition to the new content that will be released during Season 1, the developers are also continuing to work on known bugs and new modes to keep players entertained.
What do you think of the idea of packing old maps into the large Ground War maps?
