Rapper Snoop Dogg is known for his habit of smoking everywhere and anytime. He announced on X.com that he is giving that up, and the social teams of Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo and WoW had suitable responses.
Who is Snoop Dogg? Snoop Dogg is the stage name of Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr., an American rapper and reggae musician. He started his career in the early 1990s. Before that, he was already active under the pseudonym 213. He made his first steps as Snoop Dogg in 1992 on Dr. Dre’s album The Chronic
.
He released his first album Doggystyle
in 1993. In the USA, it stayed at number 1 on the charts for a total of 75 weeks and was certified quadruple platinum. To date, he has released 19 studio albums and 114 singles, among other things.
Apart from his music, Snoop Dogg is also known for his passion for consuming cannabis products, primarily smoking in the form of so-called joints. In 2021, he even started an attempt to legalize cannabis across the entire USA together with an American activist.
What did Snoop Dogg announce? In a post on X.com (formerly Twitter), the artist announced that he wants to quit smoking
:
Although Snoop Dogg doesn’t specify the statement further, it is most likely meant that he no longer wants to smoke cannabis products. This is very uncharacteristic for Snoop Dogg, whose image is largely shaped by his cannabis consumption.
How did Diablo and WoW react to this? The X.com accounts of both Blizzard games reacted to Snoop Dogg’s announcement. The general Diablo account responded directly:
However, we will not give up on smoke*.
*The smoke of hellfire and sulfur. We actually don’t know what you are referring to.

On the official account of World of Warcraft, Blizzard went a step further and published their own version of Snoop Dogg’s post:
In World of Warcraft, the workers of the Horde and Orc clans are called Peon
. They do not fight in battles but take care of all tasks outside of fighting. In Warcraft 1 to 3 they appear as units, and you can also find them in WoW and complete quests related to them.
Peons rarely rise in rank. Work is second nature for many of them. A Peon who abandons his work is somewhat comparable to Snoop Dogg quitting smoking pot.
How did the community react to the memes? The community responded rather reservedly at Diablo, while WoW received many positive comments. Here are a few voices:
- @andyjg1331 about Diablo:
Is this an April joke out of season?
(A quote from a viral question from a Blizzcon attendee about Diablo Immortal.) - @agent_ages about Diablo:
Oh, great, so you’re now going to sell a new Smoke*-Emote for real money as a brand.
- @thermoralskeptic about WoW:
Whoever has been running WoW’s social media lately needs a serious pay raise.
- @ForrestAnthony about WoW:
He is no longer such an Orc …
- @AxanthicSoul about WoW:
Oh no. I just started playing Warcraft 3 again. The SCVs files for a union after 40 hours of StarCraft. Get to work! Joining the Slacker Club quest
What do you think about the reactions of the Diablo and WoW social accounts? Do you listen to or have you listened to Snoop Dogg’s music? We look forward to your comments.
